About Us
Belvidere Church of Christ
was established in the early 1960s by members from other
Churches of Christ in nearby Rockford. At first they rented
a hall on State Street in which to gather together for
weekly study and worship services. During the first couple
years this new congregation experienced steady growth so
they pooled their resources and purchased a
lot in the residential development of Sheffield Green. It
was there that they erected their first building. After
continued growth they soon purchased a larger lot just a
couple blocks up the street. It was on this parcel that the
church built a higher-capacity facility that has
served them well ever since.
It is there that on every
Sunday we observe the Lord's
Supper,
remembering how we are saved through the death and
resurrection of Christ Jesus our Lord (Luke 22:19; Acts
20:7)
It is also in our weekly
classes and worship services that there is the study of
God's Word, corporate prayer, the preaching of the Gospel,
and congregational singing. And like the practice of the
earliest Christians, we sing songs of praise and worship to
God without any
instrumental accompaniment. The melody we make is with our
lips and in our hearts (Ephesians 5:19).
Throughout the years, many
individuals and families have enjoyed warm fellowship,
biblical teaching, celebration of the Gospel, and sweet
memories within the weekly gatherings of this congregation.
